LA Burning Man Announce 4/5/16

======== LA BURNING MAN ANNOUNCE 4/5/16 =========

INTRODUCTION

Wow! We made it through BEquinox 3 weekends ago, then the Global Leadership Conference (Burning Man dork fest) in San Fran this past weekend, I’m not just full of playa love and my brain swimming with everything I learned – I’m pooped! I’m looking forward to a weekend off, which means possibly shakin’ some butt at one of the many dance things we’ve got listed here in LA.

There’s also a great event down in San Diego with 2 of my friends, Chadwick and Blackass, rockin’ the decks! I wish I had the energy to go down there to see them play – so you’ll have to go for me!

The weekend of April 16 is full of cool events, too, there were just too many to get into this newsletter.

We’re in a slow point in Black Rock deadlines – the next one that’s coming up is April 13 — STEP opens to participants SELLING tickets and vehicle passes.

These past few weeks has proved that nothing’s sure but death and taxes. Time to work on my taxes…

🙂 Plaid & Gloria “Good Vibrations

>>>>~~~~~ NEW LALA BOARD MEMBERS ANNOUNCED~~~~<<<<

TO THE COMMUNITY :

We want to congratulate Troy Robson and Tanto Goldstein on their election to a 2 year term to the Los Angeles League of Arts Board of Directors. They join Allan Gelbard, Athena Demos, Cathleen Cotter, David Wedeen, Debra Stiers, Esquire Jauchem, and Marc Rosenthal to form a 9 member board. Troy and Tanto received the top two vote totals, thus winning the two open board seats.

Our community is fortunate to have the opportunity to choose from a number of outstanding candidates. Through the election, we were fortunate to have gotten to know all the candidates better, and look forward to their leadership in the future.

We can say with confidence that the talent, dedication, professionalism, and experience of Troy and Tanto will positively impact the capabilities of the board and the community.

Each brings unique skills and expertise that will combine with existing board talent to meet the challenges and growth facing our community. Our community is blessed to have so many who give of their time and talent for the common good, and we are particularly fortunate to have the generosity of spirit, energy, and commitment that our new board members offer.

Thank you to all our highly motivated nominees and the voting burner community. You are an integral part of this process.

>>>>~~~~ THE RAD TEAM BEHIND ALKE’ THE WHITE DRAGON SEEKS CONTRIBUTORS FOR THEIR NEXT PROJECT~~~~<<<<

~originally posted in the LA Burners Facebook group, and was too awesome not to share - Plaid~

Hello dear Family.

The time has come again, the time to begin working on our installation for this year. Our Team brought Alke' the white dragon last year. This year we are creating the Tower of Ascension.

The Tower has been designed to create an experience of ascension, a 'rising of energy' for those who interact with it. The more people who interact with it the higher this energy rises. With enough people the energy will rise up to the top of the Tower and be shot forth as a burst of flame.

This posting is to let you know of something amazing being born in 'our' backyard. Our team is dedicated to co-creating this project, ideas, labor and funds are all welcome. If you have a positive attitude, like to smile, roll up your sleeves and get to work, and would like to be a part of something special, please introduce yourself and we can figure out how you can add your signature to this piece.

A huge part of this project is creating community through collaboration. At this point we have plenty of hands to create the project, my thought is now to turn the piece from a simple art project into a lightning rod of creation. To use it as a focus to have other things happen, performance, dance, DJ's, to use it as a medium for expression and giving.

Thanks and we look forward to speaking with you!

>>>>~~~~LUCIDITY FESTIVAL 2016 : CROSSROADS~~~~<<<<

April 8-11

Live Oak Campground, Santa Ynes, CA

Lucidity Festival is back for the 5th chapter of its epic saga of personal and collective transformation. In this year we take a firm look at the challenges we face as a people and a planet and arrive with Soulutions… The Crossroads are coming!

https://www.facebook.com/events/1500925826900582/

The Festival

Lucidity is an open-source transformational arts and music festival. We call it open-source because we co-create this festival experience with YOU! We invite you to come play with us, get involved with one of our seven themed villages, call together your star family, bring art, lead a workshop, spark a spontaneous flash mob, embody a character from your dreams, be silly and wild and free!

When we become lucid in our dreams, we realize ourselves as infinite potential, we let go of fear, and we are free to create that which we want to see in the world. Bring those visions, those possibilities, and that delicious conscious energy with you to Lucidity and wake up in the dream.

Year 5: Crossroads

The second chapter of our collective journey and the fifth installment of our epic saga brings us to this turbulent moment in space and time—the Now of our socio-cultural evolution. We see our global human family entangled in a liminal, transitional zone between what was and what will be. Crossroads is the place between worlds. It is a limbo zone where many of us are confronted by Shadow and a great fear of the unknown. This dark night of the collective soul represents our final push through the oppressive powers of mind control and socioeconomic domination. Having traversed three years of personal discovery, exploration, and realization, and having time-traveled into our past to learn from our tribal elders, we are now standing upon the mountaintop, hand in hand, looking out upon our beloved Mother Earth. Without denial or judgment, we acknowledge the bursting cities and poisoned seas, the weeping jungle and waning ice worlds. As the Dreamers of the New Dawn, only moments are spent on grief, as we are here to envision solutions. We resolve to cast light upon the darkness, to dig our hands in the dirt, to sing songs of a peaceful future, and actively sweep away that which no longer serves us.

>>>>~~~~INSPIRED BY CHICAGO’S CHIDITAROD SHOPPING CART RACE~~~~<<<<

One of the highlights for me at last weekend’s Tenth Annual Burning Man Global Leadership Conference (GLC) was being inspired by the presentation given by the 2 people that spearhead the Chiditarod shopping cart race through the streets of Chicago.

In 10 years, they went from just a few decorated shopping cart teams (racing around Chicago, bar to bar!) to 1,000 people involved in their last (10th) race. I’m all about the jackassary (as you may know from my Gigsville roots), and I was thrilled to see that jackassary is alive and well in the Chicago community – in fact only 5% of the teams entered this past year were burners! Way to inspire the general public to let their inner child out!

One aspect of the Chiditarod I loved – they turned the event into a charity food drive, gathering more than 100,000 pounds of food this past year. They joked that it was a lot harder to get arrested when your event is for charity. J

If that wasn’t impressive enough, the Chiditarod people have created “Rod In A Box”, an open-source kit to put on your very own shopping cart race. In their words:

“The Rod-in-a-Box project takes the magic of CHIditarod and distills it into a reproducible toolkit designed to empower any organized, driven group to build creative, participatory, fun events that produce real social impact in their own communities.

It consists of 11 years’ worth of manuals, forms, spreadsheets, timelines, templates, learned lessons, software, and pro tips. It is organized primarily as a set of interlocking Google docs alongside a website and open source technology.”

Sound good? So good you want to take them up on their offer and have a Chiditarod in LA? Get everything you need here:

http://www.rodinabox.org

The GLC is Burning Man’s flagship educational event, bringing together community leaders from across the Network for four playful, celebratory days of skill-sharing, knowledge exchange, and relationship building to promote leadership and community development around the world).
