Call for artists: Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk

The Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk is a 501©3 nonprofit promoting the visual arts and culture in Downtown Los Angeles.

In addition to the popular Art Walk event on the second Thursday of each month, our organization routinely works with partners to curate pop-ups and alternative art spaces all over the Downtown Core.

We are now accepting submissions from individual artists interested in being a part of an upcoming series of exhibitions and projects beginning as soon as December 2015.

Selected artists may be exhibited at the Downtown Art Walk Lounge or at other venues, on Art Walk evenings or at various times during the month. Additionally, artists may be selected for live painting/drawing events, or site-specific projects that are temporary in nature.

THE CALL IS OPEN TO ALL PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS RESIDING IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY!

DEADLINE: The deadline for entries is Friday, November 20th, 2015 at 12:00 midnight.

MEDIUM: All mediums may be submitted for review (drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, collage, digital art, installation, performances, sculpture, new media, video).

YEAR COMPLETED: Artworks must have been completed within the last two years

GENRE: All genres may be submitted, however please refrain from submitting artworks based on copyrighted materials or characters, or on already existing artworks (such as celebrity photographs).

DIMENSIONS: Various sizes will be considered depending on the venue, as long as artists can arrange for artwork delivery and pick-up.

PRESENTATION: Paintings may be unframed as long as the canvas edges are painted or "clean". For works on paper, we prefer simple black or white "stock" frames (Aaron Bros. is fine) with a glass or acrylic pane, and hanging wire. Please include all relevant presentation details in your submission.

DELIVERY: Artists must be available to drop off and pick up work from the venue(s). In certain cases such as pop-ups, drop-off and pick-up must be done one the same day. This will be discussed with selected artists.

INSTALLATION: Our curators will hang and de-install 2D works. For sculptures, projections, site-specific installations, performances, or anything that cannot be hung flat on a wall, artists will be expected to install the artwork and supply all necessary materials, and follow site restrictions.

DURATION: Some of our projects will be on display for a full quarter (three months), while our pop-up exhibitions are one-day-only events. Duration will be discussed with selected artists.

IMAGE FILES: Please submit up to twenty (20) images in .jpg format, 1600 pixels at the longest side at 72dpi. *** Please do not submit a website link or a PDF file containing a collection of images. *** It's important our curators are able to view the images as individual files. Images submitted in any other format will not be accepted.

IMAGE LABELS: To ensure proper identification, please label your image files with the artist's first name, last name and the artwork title [ i.e. SylviaJohnson_LandscapeInBlue.jpg ]

ARTWORK INFORMATION: Please attach a separate document listing artwork details under the corresponding file name: Artist name, artwork title, medium, finished dimensions (including frame, if applicable), and year created. For installations, non-traditional or larger-scale artworks, please include a plan or brief proposal describing the project (not exceeding 500 words).

STATEMENT / BIO (OPTIONAL): If desired, you may include a very brief artist statement and bio information (broad strokes, not exceeding 500 words).

ENTRY FEE: The Downtown Art Walk is a 501©3 nonprofit organization. Although not a requirement for participation, a suggested $10 donation entry fee is requested from each artist for up to 20 images submitted. SALES & COMMISSIONS: Should any sales result from exhibitions, the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk shall retain a 25% commission (tax-deductible). In this case, artists will be required to submit an invoice with amounts owed so a check can be issued.

AGREEMENT: Selected artists must sign a standard agreement outlining the details and terms of the exhibition prior to works being exhibited at any of the participating venues.

STIPENDS: Depending on the project, stipends may be available for art performances such as live drawing or painting. Selected artists will be given details individually.

POSSIBLE VENUES: Participating artists may be considered for inclusion at the Downtown Art Walk Lounge Gallery, for various pop-ups and project spaces as they become available, or for larger events. Artists may be shown at any available venue at Art Walk's discretion. Opening receptions may or may not be held on Art Walk evenings.
